How to Choose a Weight for Singles on 5/3/1 or 3/5/1

Powerlifting Wrist Wraps on Barbell If you've read the 5/3/1 for Powerlifting (or 3/5/1) book by Jim Wendler and are still lost on how to calculate a weight for the singles, here's how to do it. It's approximately 90-95% of what your 1 rep max is. Not your 'training max'. After your work sets, you can get a guage with how high you could go that day in percentage. If you're unsure start at 90% and go up from there if the bar moves fast.

Hey Dan,

Wanted to see if you had any advice regarding the feasibility of setting up a power rack in an apartment. From your pictures you look to have done it successfully but I have some concerns, specifically the stability of carpet with heavy squats. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for all you do, you've been a great source of info.
